The object of the study is comforting as a non-binding directive speech act. The articlediscusses the expression of comforting with the help of the speech act of advice. Theanalysis is based on three Slavic languages: Russian, Polish and Czech. The examples forstudy are excerpted from Internet blogs and fora, as well as other web sources and real lifecommunication. The analysis of the language material shows that utterances with imperativesare the most typical way to express comforting.
