Streszczenie

Praca doktorska zatytułowana Obraz stosunków polsko-rosyjskich w literaturze szkolnej Imperium Rosyjskiego (1721 – 1917) dąży do uzupełnienia i przeformułowania istniejących teoretyczno-metodologicznych koncepcji z zakresu studiów nad imperiami w oparciu o interdyscyplinarny warsztat badawczy. Główny cel rozprawy stanowi opisanie narracji historycznej szkolnej literatury edukacyjnej Imperium Rosyjskiego w kontekście sposobu ujęcia przez nią stosunków polsko-rosyjskich. Celem pomocniczym stało się zaś utworzenie modelu ujawniającego nastawienie imperium Romanowów wobec „obcych”, a szerzej – ujęcia w literaturze szkolnej mocarstwa kolonialnego kwestii współistnienia społeczeństwa imperialnego ze wspólnotami mu podwładnym. Model ten odzwierciedla nie tylko pojedyncze studium przypadku, lecz także ukazuje istotę polityki imperium jako tworu politycznego konsekwentnie unaoczniając intelektualne tło narracji historiograficznej ukierunkowanej na szeroki krąg odbiorców – w tym subalternów – a nie wąskie grono elit intelektualnych. Tekst dysertacji służy wypełnieniu istotnej luki w naszej wiedzy na temat rozumienia kształtowania się stosunków etnicznych na obszarze Imperium Rosyjskiego, rosyjskiej polityki narodowościowej i odnośnej myśli politycznej oraz dylematów polityki imperialnej w zderzeniu z nowoczesnym nacjonalizmem. Dotychczas bowiem nie przeprowadzono badań nad dyskursem podręcznikowym Imperium Rosyjskiego w centrum uwagi których została by umiejscowiona kwestia ewolucji sposobu traktowania tematyki stosunków polsko-rosyjskich.

Summary

The dissertation entitled The Portrayal of Polish-Russian Relations in the School Literature of the Russian Empire (1721-1917) seeks to supplement and reformulate existing theoretical and methodological concepts in the field of empire studies on the basis of an interdisciplinary research approach. The main aim of the dissertation is to describe the historical narrative of the school educational literature of the Russian Empire in the context of the representation of Polish-Russian relations. An additional aim was to create a model showing the Romanov Empire's attitude towards the Other and, more generally, the treatment of the issue of the coexistence of imperial society with subject communities in the school literature of a colonial power. This model not only reflects a single case study, but also reveals the nature of the empire's policy as a political entity, consistently revealing the intellectual background of a historiographical narrative aimed at a broad audience – including subalterns – rather than a narrow circle of intellectual elites.
The text of the dissertation serves to fill an important gap in our knowledge of understanding the formation of ethnic relations within the Russian Empire, Russian nationality policy and political thought, and the dilemmas of imperial politics in confronting modern nationalism. To date, there has been no study of textbook discourse in the Russian Empire that has focused on the question of the development of the treatment of the topic of Polish-Russian relations.
