Zastosowano historyczne, trzyetapowe metody badań naukowych: heurystykę, krytykę źródeł i tworzenie syntezy dziejów. Wykorzystano metody ustalania faktów: indukcyjną, dedukcyjną, porównawczą, statystyczną, progresywną, retrogresywną i filologiczną oraz następujące rodzaje wyjaśniania historycznego: genetyczne, strukturalne, deskrypcyjne i przyczynowe.

Strukturę pracy stanowi pięć rozdziałów. Rozdział pierwszy ma charakter wprowadzający i zawiera treści poświęcone Nowemu Wychowaniu. Przedstawia Marię Montessori, jej życiorys oraz podstawowe założenia jej koncepcji pedagogicznej wraz z wyjaśnieniem instrumentarium pojęć i przedstawieniem aspektów przygotowanego otoczenia: osobowego, strukturalno-dynamicznego i materialnego.

Rozdział drugi traktuje o przemianach oświaty w kontekście uwarunkowań politycznych, ekonomicznych i społeczno-kulturowych stanowiących tło działalności szkół podstawowych Montessori w Polsce. Wprowadzone regulacje prawne umożliwiły rozwój sektora prywatnego w oświacie, a przemiany społeczno-kulturowe ułatwiły tworzenie niepublicznych szkół, do których należą szkoły podstawowe Montessori.

Aspekt osobowy działalności montessoriańskich szkół podstawowych stanowią ich pracownicy (zwłaszcza dyrektorzy, kadra pedagogiczna i inni), uczniowie i rodzice, którym poświęcono adekwatne analizy.

Ostatnia część dysertacji prezentuje działalność wychowawczą i opiekuńczą szkół podstawowych Montessori. Oferują różne formy pomocy i wsparcia psychologiczno-pedagogicznego, zatrudniają właściwych specjalistów.

The submitted dissertation entitled The activity of Montessori primary schools in Poland in the years 1989-2016 falls within the subdiscipline of pedagogy, which is the history of education. The aim of the doctoral dissertation is to present the activities of 47 Montessori primary schools in Polish operating in the years 1989-2016. The work is a historical and pedagogical monograph with a problem-chronological arrangement. The research was based on source materials, Internet materials and interviews with school principals and staff during research visits to Montessori primary schools. Historical, three-stage methods of scientific research were used: heuristics, criticism of sources and creating a synthesis of history. Factfinding methods were used: inductive, deductive, comparative, statistical, progressive, retrogressive, and philological, as well as the following types of historical explanation: genetic, structural, descriptive and causal.

The structure of work consists of five chapters. The first chapter is introductory and contains content devoted to the New Upbringing. It presents Maria Montessori, her biography and the basic assumptions of her pedagogical concept, together with an explanation of the instrumentation of terms and presentation of aspects of the prepared environment: personal, structural-dynamic and material. In the Montessori method, the child and his development are central. The environment in which the student lives is to release his potential through a supportive teacher, a group of mixed ages, development materials, as well as the possibility of implementing principles such as: freedom, independence, individualization and activity. The first chapter also contains issues related to the creation and development of Montessori institutions in Poland and shows the main training centers that enabled the education of teachers with in-depth knowledge of M. Montessori's concept, its method and system, and the ability to adapt them to the conditions of Polish education.individualization and activity. The first chapter also contains issues related to the establishment and development of Montessori institutions in Poland and shows the main training centers that enabled the education of teachers characterized by in-depth knowledge of the concept of M. Montessori, her method and system, having the ability to adapt them to the conditions of Polish education.

The second chapter deals with the transformations of education in the context of political, economic and socio-cultural conditions constituting the background to the activities of Montessori primary schools in Poland. The introduced legal regulations enabled the development of the private sector in education, and socio-cultural changes facilitated the creation of non-public schools, which include Montessori primary schools.

The empirical part of the dissertation consists of the next three chapters. They present analyzes of the activities of Montessori primary schools in Poland in the years 1989-2016. They contain the genesis of the beginnings of Montessori primary schools and a description of the material, structural, dynamic and personal aspects of Montessori institutions in Poland. The infrastructure and school equipment were presented, which is a rich and properly organized environment, which is a carrier of upbringing and educational content. The basis of the school's activity is a paedocentric understanding of the child, opening to periods of special sensitivity and comprehensive development of the student. The personal aspect of the activity of Montessori primary schools are their employees (especially principals, teaching staff and others), students and parents, to whom adequate analyzes have been devoted.

The empirical part of the work also includes the issues of didactic activity of Montessori primary schools. The aim of the activity was to arouse enthusiasm for learning, develop students' own activity and self-education, carried out during their own work and activity in school interest clubs. In this context, issues related to the organization of the educational process were presented. The individual development path of a student and the specificity of assessment, which has a motivational function, were taken into account.

The last part of the dissertation presents the education and care activities of Montessori primary schools. It presents students' self-governance, volunteering and charity activities, showing the active activities of children aimed at undertaking numerous initiatives. It contains a description of celebrations, events and school trips that create the traditions of the presented institutions. Analyzes of care activities confirmed that schools of this type are prepared to work with children with diverse developmental and educational needs. They offer various forms of help and psychological and pedagogical support, and employ appropriate specialists. They take care of the children and organize adequate classes supporting and supporting the development of students. Further analyzes concerned e.g. school uniform, performing educational functions, allowing students to identify with their school. The topic discussed was complemented by showing the forms and scope of cooperation between institutions and parents who co-create the school community. Montessori primary schools, by involving parents in activities for the benefit of students, create coherent educational environment. The method of Maria Montessori, despite 100 years of tradition, is continued and gaining more and more popularity in the institutional form in Poland. The growing number of Montessori primary schools demonstrates the demand for institutions in which the student occupies a central place not only in theoretical considerations, but also in practice.
