Assessment of students' skills in visual communication of information

Due to the digitization of information transfer, competences concerning the ability to convert text into a visual form and vice versa (the correct reading of images and interpreting the content contained therein) are becoming of key importance. It is of particular significance from the point of view of entrepreneurs who frequently make business decisions based solely on short reports and charts. The aim of the article is to present the results of research on people aspiring to managerial positions in the future in terms of what skills they have in the field of data visualization. The experiment consisted in the respondents making charts based on a short verbal description of a certain situation. Both the visual form and the substantive content of the charts were analyzed. This allowed the author to identify the most common mistakes made by the respondents, which significantly limit the clarity of the visualization or even make the chart incorrect or only fragmentary.
