‚Angstträume der Ausgewanderten‘ : flucht- und Angstmotive in Gertrud Leuteneggers Roman "Späte Gäste" (2020)

In Gertrud Leuteneggers bisher letztem Roman Späte Gäste (2020) dreht sich alles – wie in vielen ihrer früheren Bücher – um das Thema der Liebe und des Todes. Gleichzeitig aber gelangen in den Vordergrund diverse Motive der Flucht und der Rettung des Lebens bzw. des Beginns eines neuen Lebens und die damit verbundenen Ängste und Befürchtungen. Zum einen ist somit dieser autobiografisch geprägte Roman eine Auseinandersetzung mit dem Tod des geliebten Menschen, vor dessen Gewalttätigkeit jedoch die namenlose Ich-Erzählerin fliehen musste, zum anderen macht er aber auf das höchst aktuelle Problem der gegenwärtigen Flüchtlingswellen aufmerksam. Vor dem Hintergrund einer kurzen Charakteristik der einzigartigen Erzählweise der mit vielen literarischen Auszeichnungen gewürdigten Schweizer Schriftstellerin konzentriert sich der Beitrag eben auf die in diesem Werk dominierenden Motive der Flucht und der Angst und interpretiert den Roman einerseits als ein ‚Abschiedsbuch‘, andererseits aber auch als ein ‚Willkommensbuch‘, in dem aufgezeigt wird, wie notwendig es ist, den Geflüchteten – im Titel des Romans als „späte Gäste“ paraphrasiert – die Chance auf einen Neuanfang zu gewähren. Eine wesentliche Rolle spielt dabei der Orpheus-Mythos mit der Warnung, nicht zurückzuschauen, auf den der Roman vielfach rekurriert. Auch diese Warnung steht somit im Focus der Interpretation und wird ebenso auf die traumatischen Erfahrungen der Ich-Erzählerin wie auch auf die erschütternden Erlebnisse der in dem analysierten Werk vielfach dargestellten Figuren der Flüchtlinge beziehungsweise der Ausgewanderten bezogen.

Ostatnia powieść Gertrud Leutenegger Späte Gäste [Późni goście] (2020) krąży wokół tematu miłości i śmierci – podobnie jak wiele jej wcześniejszych książek. Jednocześnie jednak na pierwszy plan wysuwają się różnorodne motywy ucieczki i ratowania życia lub rozpoczęcia nowego życia i związane z nimi strach i lęki. Ta powieść o zabarwieniu autobiograficznym jest pożegnaniem ze zmarłym ukochanym, przed którego agresją jednak bezimienna pierwszoosobowa narratorka musiała uciekać, lecz równocześnie zwraca szczególną uwagę na niezwykle aktualny problem obecnych fal uchodźców. Na tle krótkiej charakterystyki wyjątkowego stylu narracyjnego szwajcarskiej pisarki, uhonorowanej licznymi nagrodami literackimi, artykuł skupia się na dominujących w analizowanym utworze motywach ucieczki i lęku, interpretując powieść – z jednej strony – jako pewnego rodzaju ‘księgę pożegnalną’, z drugiej strony – także jako ‘księgę powitalną’, która pokazuje, jak konieczne jest danie uchodźcom – sparafrazowanym w tytule powieści jako „późni goście” – szansy na nowy początek. Ważną rolę odgrywa tu przestroga z mitu o Orfeuszu, by nie oglądać się wstecz, do którego powieść wielokrotnie nawiązuje. Również to ostrzeżenie jest przedmiotem interpretacji zarówno w odniesieniu do traumatycznych doświadczeń pierwszoosobowej narratorki, jak i do wstrząsających przeżyć uchodźców i emigrantów, często pojawiających się w utworze.

Gertrud Leutenegger’s latest novel Späte Gäste [The Late Guests] (2020) revolves around the theme of love and death – like many of her earlier books. At the same time, however, various motives of escaping and saving life or starting a new life, as well as the fear and anxieties associated with them, come to the fore. This novel with an autobiographical tinge is, on the one hand, a kind of farewell to a deceased loved one, – whose aggression, however, the nameless first-person narrator had to escape from, and on the other hand, it draws special attention to the highly relevant issue of the current refugee waves. Against the background of a brief description of the unique narrative style of the Swiss writer, honored with many literary awards, the article focuses on the dominant themes of escape and anxiety in the analyzed work, interpreting the novel on the one hand as a kind of ‘farewell book’, yet on the other hand also as a ‘welcome book’, which shows how necessary it is to give refugees – paraphrased in the novel’s title as “late guests” – a chance for a new beginning. An important role here is played by the warning from the myth of Orpheus not to look back, which the novel refers to many times. This warning is also in the focus of interpretation pertinent to both the traumatic experiences of the first-person narrator and the shocking ordeals of refugees and emigrants, who often appear in the analyzed work.
