Frugal innovations in rail transport

The role of innovation in modern enterprise management is an extremely important issue, especially in the context of striving for environmentally friendly solutions. The growing popularity of frugal innovations in emerging markets has contributed to the interest in this theme also in developed economies, where increasing efficiency should go hand in hand with the idea of sustainable development. According to the idea of frugal innovations, they respond to resource constraints and the reduction of the consumption of resources at all stages related to production and use should lead to environmental protection. The aim of the article is to present a case study of a coal wagon – an example of a frugal innovation in rail transport, which made it possible to increase the transport efficiency, taking into account the operational limitations in the transport of goods in Poland and to achieve the reduction of greenhouse gas emission.
