In day of globalization of market economy and with related harmonization and standardisation of accountancy, the accounting profession is continuously challenged. The increased importance of accounting profession and its impact on economic life has been observed lately. It forces academics to enhance the quality of the system of preparation of candidates on professional accountant. Author of the article has researched opinions of graduates and students of „finance and accountancy” faculty to assess their preparation for practicing accounting profession. The article presents the results of the carried out survey research. The questionnaire research carried out in years 2009–2011 allowed to work out the list of requirements from the accounting profession in the opinion of graduates and students of WNEiZ US. The research has confirmed that the university offer for students needs to be adjusted to the market practice needs and requirements. The usefulness of the curriculum and teaching materials has not been highly evaluated neither by graduates nor by students, which only confirms that University needs to enhance the quality of the offer and adjust it so it follows the changes in the challenging market environment of the accounting profession and continuously increasing requirements from accounting professionals and candidates.
